Successfully implemented unique social programmes within the Police Department, like adoption of villages, setting up of complaint boxes, adult education, dispute redressal week, etc.; as Commissioner of Sports, spearheaded the setting up of sports stadiums in every taluk of Karnataka; established sport schools in all districts and started gyms in rural areas; set up 3,000 youth clubs (Rajiv Gandhi Youth Clubs) to promote youth empowerment and leadership qualities; as Commissioner, Kannada and Culture Department, introduced many popular programmes – Maneangaladalli Maathu-Kathe (discussion series by people of eminence in their respective fields), Bala Prathiba and Kishore Prathiba Awards in dance and music, Udhyanavanadalli Udaya Raaga (morning music in public parks), etc.; led artists to U.K. and U.S.A. for world literary meets; introduced a pension scheme for elderly artists and folk artists; founded, Saangeetya Aasthaana and Saptaswara Cultural Academy to promote music, dance and literary activities in the State; instituted various awards and scholarships for young and talented artists; Chairman, Shankara Foundation, Bangalore, which works for the preservation and promotion of arts and culture
