Hon’ble Thiru. Justice M.GOVINDARAJ
Hon’ble Mr.Justice M.Govindaraj hails from a traditional family from Arantangi, Pudukkottai District. He was born at Madurai on 19.05.1960. His grandfather Shri.A.G.Rajagopal Naidu was a freedom fighter. His father Shri.R.Muthuraman was an Assistant Head Master in Government Board School, Tiruthuraipoondi and mother Smt. Indirani, a home maker.
He started his elementary education at Panangadi Village, in the then Thanjavur District and continued the same in Revathy School, Tiruthuraipoondi. He had his High School education at Government High School, Tiruthuraipoondi. He did his PUC and B.Sc., Degree in Zoology in Bishop Heber College, Trichy, between 1977 and 1981. He completed M.Sc, Degree at Sri Pushpam College, Poondi, Thanjavur District in the year 1984 and then joined Law in the year 1985 at Government Law College, Trichy and enrolled as an advocate on 30.11.1988.
He joined the office of Mr.N.Kannan, Advocate, High Court and a Part-time Professor and specialized in Civil, Criminal, Writ and Conveyance till 1990. Thereafter, he joined the office of Mr.Vijay Narayan, Senior Advocate, and specialized in Service matters before Administrative Tribunals and High Court. He started his independent practice in the year 1995 and had a good practice in all branches of law in various Courts and Tribunals.
He was appointed as an Additional Central Government Standing Counsel in the year 1996 and a Panel Advocate for BSNL from 2000 till date of elevation. He served as an Additional Government Pleader for Puducherry Government between 2011 and 2012. He was also a Standing Counsel for Corporation of Chennai at Madras High Court for two years and Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, Telengana State at National Green Tribunal (SZ), Chennai from 2015. He was appointed as Government Pleader for Puducherry at Madras High Court in the year 2015.
He is a Mediator and Mediator Trainer from Tamilnadu Mediation and Conciliation Center, High Court, Madras and trained many Mediators in various parts of the country.
He was an office bearer of The Madras Bar Association and held various posts. He was elected as its Secretary in the year 2015, which post he held till September 2016.
Mr.M.Govindaraj is the First Graduate, Post-graduate and a Law graduate in his family. He is the first Judge to be elevated from the Bar in Pudukkottai District. He is also a first student to be elevated as Judge of Madras High Court from Trichy Law College.
His wife Dr.P.Jayamathi is the HOD and Professor of Bio-Chemistry at Meenakshi Ammal Dental College. His daughter Dr.G.Keerthidaa is doing her Master in Dental Surgery in Thai Moogambigai Dental College and his son G.Pritham Sriram is doing 12th standard in Maharishi Vidya Mandir, Chetput, Chennai
