Shri. M. M. Mani, MLA from Udumbanchola, sworn in as Minister for Electricity of Kerala on 22 November, 2016, subsequent to the first Cabinet reshuffle of the LDF government in Kerala.
Right from his childhood, he was active in various agricultural agitations held as part of agricultural reforms in the hill district of ldukki, even prior to the formation of the district. As part of a move to fix fair wages of plantation workers, various mass agitations were held in various places like Munnar, Peermedu, Elappara, Nedumkandam etc. Shri M. M. Mani took part in these agitations and promoted the ideology of Communist Party.
At that time, forcible eviction of tenants by the land owners were opposed by Communist Party of India through various organised protests. In 1957, immediately after the swearing in of the Communist ministry, EMS government initiated Land reforms in Kerala, which paved way for the rising popularity of Communist Party in the district. The Government had issued a historic ordinance prohibiting the eviction of people from their tenancy land, the land occupied by them for dwelling and homestead.
Consequently, he took part in almost all protests held after the Vimochana Samaram i.e. Amaravati protest led by AKG and other farmer protests led by Pattam Thanu Pillai, R. Sankar etc.
He became a party member in 1966. Earlier, Shri. Mani served as Bisonvalley local secretary (1970), Rajakkad local secretary (1971), taluk secretary (1976) and later became district secretariat member (1978). In 1985, he became Idukki district secretary and held the position for the next 27 years.
Born on 12 December 1944 in Kidangoor, Kottayam district, Shri. Mani’s father was Madhavan and mother Janaki. Married to Lakshmikutty Amma, the couple has five children Sati, Shyamala, Suma, Geetha, and Sreeja.
