Son of P.V. Krishnan Gurukkal and T.K. Parvathi Amma. Started political career as I.S.U unit president in Kandonthar Edamana. U.P. School in 1956. President of K.S.U Cannanore Taluk Committee, General Secretary of K.S.U State Committee. District Convenor of Youth Congress. While holding the post of State K.S.U president (1969-1971), elected as Member of Parliament from Kasaragod constituency in 1971 at the age of 26. Elected as M.P. again in 1977 from Kasaragode. Convenor of Kerala State Congress Party in Parliament. Member of Public Accounts Committee in Parliament, Member of Consultative Committee in the Ministry of Railway and Communication. General Secretary of Congress-S State Committee in 1989. Congress-S State President since 1990. Elected as M.L.A from Irikkur in 1980 and from Edakkad in 2006. Minister for Devaswom Printing and Stationery from 2009 August to May, 2011. He is fully committed to Gandhian thoughts and propagates the slogan ‘Back to Gandhiji and Save India’. Visited U.S.S.R and Dubai.
