  1. What was the impact of industrial revolution and capitalism on the development of sociology?
  2. Evaluate Comte’s ‘Typologization of human attributes’.
  3. What are the three major metaphors that Durkheim uses to discuss social change?
  4. Explain the four basic stages of Mead’s ‘act’?
  5. Describe the four key forms of Marxian alienation.
  6. What is Stigma? Explain the three main types of stigma.
  7. Explain Weber’s thesis on the relationship between protestant ethic and the spirit of capitalism.

  1. Critically evaluate Parsonian Structural Functionalism.
  2. ‘Dramaturgical sociology argues that human actions are dependent upon time, place, and audience’. Evaluate this statement in the light of Goffman’s work.
  3. Weber’s work on ‘authority’ makes him a bourgeois Marx. Clarify this statement.
  4. Examine the main elements of Marxian theory of class conflict.
