About Tirap District :
Tirap District is bounded by Myanmar towards South, by Changlang District towards the East, by Dibrugarh District of Assam in the North and by Sibasagar (Assam) and Mon (Nagaland) district towards the West. It covers a totalarea of 2362 sq. km and is the second smallest district of Arunachal Pradesh. However, it has the highest density of population of 42 persons per square kilometer in Arunachal Pradesh. The District derives its name from the river Tirap which originates in the district and flows through Changlang District of Arunachal Pradesh.The entire area of the District is covered with high hills and deep gorges. There are hardly a few plots of plain land available in the villages lying close to the plains of Assam.A major portion of the people inhabiting the district are the indigenous tribal groups which constitute more than 70% of the total district population.The major tribes inhabiting in the district are the Nocte, Wancho and the Tutsa. Like other tribes of Arunachal Pradesh, the Noctes, the Wanchos and the Tutsas of Tirap also depend upon agriculture and allied activities for their source of livelihood. The District is divided into 4 administrative sub-divisions, 7 Blocks and 10 Circles.
