  1. Define Coefficient of Viscosity. Give its units.
  2. State the Fick’s law of diffusion.
  3. State the laws of refraction
  4. What is glycolysis?
  5. What are coupled reactions?
  6. Find the de Broglie wavelength of an electron with a kinetic energy of 100 eV.
  7. List different methods of detecting ultrasonic waves.
  8. The disintegration constant λ of a radioactive element is 0.00231 per day. Calculate its half- life and average life.
  9. What are radio isotopes? Give some examples.
  10. What are transducers? Give the different types of transducers.

PART B

Answer any four questions:                                                 (4 х 7.5=30)

  1. Derive Poiseuille’s formula for the rate of flow of a liquid through a capillary tube.
  2. Obtain an expression for the resolving power of a microscope.
  3. (a) What is Galton’s Whistle? (5)

(b)   Calculate the fundamental frequency of  vibration of a quartz crystal of

thickness 5mm if the velocity of longitudinal waves through it is 5760m/s

 

  1. Derive an expression to calculate the half life and mean life period an radioactive element.
  2. Compare p700 and p680.

Answer any four questions:                                              (4 х 12.5=50)

  1. a) Define Osmotic pressure and state its laws. (5 marks)
  2. b) Deduce an expression for the elevation of the boiling point of a liquid by a non-volatile

substance dissolved in it.                                    (7.5 marks)

  1. Write a detailed note of the Kreb’s cycle.
  2. With necessary block diagram, describe ultrasonic imaging technique.
  3. Write in detail about the energetics of beta decay.
  4. Give a detailed account on the pressure transducer.
