Instructions : Read the passage below and answer the questions that follow based on your understanding of the passage (71 – 75).
The quest for distinct higher living styles has led to blind competition which is fuelled by rising consumerism and aspirations. A good number of families are becoming prey to market forces resulting in over spending and indebtedness leading to an excess of family expenditure over income. Consequently, two options are left-either put in extra hours to cover-up the deficit or to learn and apply shortcuts to be in competition. The price rise, allurement for new products, inflation in the market pushes people into vicious circle of financial crisis and family relations becomes the first casualty. Further, peoples’ aspirations for higher standard of life are also affecting relations within family. The media has become a tool for changing opinions and advancing market agenda up to an extent that it peeps into the personal space of the family, affecting even sexual relationships
between couples. Our society is facing the bigger question of how to save our families from degradation, disintegration and subsequent demise. Recognizing the fact that the change has its own speed, pace and direction, there is an urgent need to explore ways and means to protect families. Since there are multiple, complex and integrated factors responsible for the present situation, the answers should also be different at different levels. At the government level, it should be kept in mind that all policies ultimately affect families. Therefore, all policies should be examined with this perspective also. Since there is no single easy definition of family, policies must accommodate all possible types. Secondly, there is need to initiate and strengthen institutional capabilities where all kinds of agencies including schools, religious organizations and entire civil society sector be involved. In nut shell, we should have family sensitive policies. Law has emerged as a more viable instrument to prevent marital conflict and families have been quite successful so far. Both marriage laws and family laws are performing well but their implementation still has scope for improvement.
71. The new ways and means to protect families should be in consonance with :
(1) The changes in the society
(2) The capacities of the people
(3) The power of government
(4) The services delivered by civil society groups
72. The relations within a family are largely affected by :
(1) Smaller size of the family
(2) Sexual relationship between couples
(3) Rising individualism among family members
(4) Weaker implementation of government policies
73. Which institution is affecting the families most in the present time ?
(1) School and Government
(2) Religious Organisations
(3) Media
(4) Civil society groups
74. The families can be saved from disintegration through :
(1) Reducing speed of change
(2) Moulding direction of change
(3) Preventing institutional crisis
(4) Building family sensitive policies
75. The families are trapped in the vicious circle of financial crisis due to :
(1) Rising consumerism
(2) Rising aspirations
(3) Rising consumerism and aspirations
(4) Quest for higher life styles
