About Chandel District :
The Chandel District (formerly known as Tengnoupal District) came into existence on May 13, 1974. It lies in the south-eastern part of Manipur state and it is the border district of the state with Mynmar. The district is bounded by Myanmar on the south, Ukhrul district on the east, Churachandpur district on the south and west, and Thoubal district on the north. The total geographical area of the district is 3,313 sq.km. and more than 90% of the total geographical area is covered by hill ranges running from North-East to South-East direction. It is about 64 km. away from Imphal. The National Highway No. 39 passes through this district. Chandel town is the administrative headquarters of the district. Moreh town, an important trade centre between Manipur and Myanmar is located at the southern most part of this district. According to the 2011 census, Chandel district has a total population of 144,028 of which 74,543 are males and 69,485 are females. The places of tourist interests in the districts are Moreh Town in the Indo-Myanmar border, and Tengnoupal.
