About Chirang District :
Chirang is one of the four districts of Bodoland Territorial Area District (BTAD) which is functioning with effect from 04th June, 2004 deriving areas from undivided Bongaigaon district, Barpeta district and Kokrajhar district. The name dates back to the several Duwars for entry and exit to the State of Bhutan Kingdom before the independence of India. Chirang was one of the said Duwars. The name of the present Chirang district is derived from that Chirang Duwar. The Chirang district is bounded by Bhutan in the north, Baksa and Barpeta in the east, Bongaigaon in the south and Kokrajhar district in the west. River Aie, Taklai, Manas, Bhur are flowing downward to the Brahmaputra through the district. The Chirang district covers an area of 1468.42 sq. km. The population of the district as per 2011 census is 4,81,818. The economy of the district is based on agriculture.Bongaigaon Refinery and the LPG bottling plant are located in the district. Champamati Hydro Electricity Power generation is also another industry in the district. The inhabitants of the district are Bodo, Adivashi, Rajbongshi, Nepali, Bengali and Assamese comprising of Hindu, Islam and Christian religion.
