SALIENT FEATURES :

 

Chittoor is an important district located in the southern part of Andhra Pradesh and is a part of Rayalseema. The district has further been divided into 31 mandalas. The district of Chittoor is well known for the Tirupati Temple. It is a major market center for mangoes, grains, sugarcane, and peanuts. Major industries around the city are Amaron Batteries, nation’s leading automobile batteries, and Nutrine Confectioneries, a major chocolate/candies producer, and this city is one of the major granite and mango pulp producing centers of India.

History : Chittoor District was formed on 1 April 1911, taking Chittoor, Palamaneru, Chandragiri from the then North Arcot District of Tamil Nadu and Madanapalli, Vayalpadu from Cuddapah and Punganur, Sri Kalahasti, Karvetinagar from Zamindari provinces to form united Chittoor district. Later in the Apri1 1 1960 319 villages of chittoor district were added into the then Kanchipuram districtand Thiruvallur districts of Tamil Nadu through the demands of Ma. Po. Si. and other leaders.
Location : Chittoor district is located in the extreme south of Andhra Pradesh, between 12° 37′ – 14° 8′ north latitudes and 78° 3′ – 79° 55′ east longitudes.
Boundaries : District boundaries it is surrounded by chittoor and Cuddapah districts on the north, by Nellore and Chengai-Anna districts of Tamilnadu on the east, by North Arcot Ambedkar and Dharmapuri district of Tamilnadu on the south and by Kolar District of Karnataka on the west. The district is spread over 15152 Sq. Kms. As per 2001 census the population of Chittoor district is 37.35 lakh

Overview
An official Census 2011 detail of Chittoor, a district of Andhra Pradesh has been released by Directorate of Census Operations in Andhra Pradesh. Enumeration of key persons was also done by census officials in Chittoor District of Andhra Pradesh.
Population
In 2011, Chittoor had population of 4,174,064 of which male and female were 2,090,204 and 2,083,860 respectively. In 2001 census, Chittoor had a population of 3,745,875 of which males were 1,889,690 and remaining 1,856,185 were females. Chittoor District population constituted 4.94 percent of total Maharashtra population. In 2001 census, this figure for Chittoor District was at 4.92 percent of Maharashtra population.
Density Of Population:
The initial provisional data released by census India 2011, shows that density of Chittoor district for 2011 is 275 people per sq. km. In 2001, Chittoor district density was at 247 people per sq. km. Chittoor district administers 15,152 square kilometers of areas.
Literacy Rate:
Average literacy rate of Chittoor in 2011 were 71.53 compared to 66.77 of 2001. If things are looked out at gender wise, male and female literacy were 79.83 and 63.28 respectively. For 2001 census, same figures stood at 77.62 and 55.78 in Chittoor District. Total literate in Chittoor District were 2,667,878 of which male and female were 1,484,794 and 1,183,084 respectively. In 2001, Chittoor District had 2,176,990 in its district.
Sex Ratio:
With regards to Sex Ratio in Chittoor, it stood at 997 per 1000 male compared to 2001 census figure of 982. The average national sex ratio in India is 940 as per latest reports of Census 2011 Directorate. In 2011 census, child sex ratio is 931 girls per 1000 boys compared to figure of 955 girls per 1000 boys of 2001 census data.
Child Population:
In census enumeration, data regarding child under 0-6 age were also collected for all districts including Chittoor. There were total 444,572 children under age of 0-6 against 485,584 of 2001 census. Chittoor District Urban Population 2011
