About Deogarh District :

 

Deogarh District, also known as Debagarh District, was newly created on 1.1.1994, being bifurcated from Sambalpur District. The District is surrounded by Angul District on its east and south, Sambalpur District on its west and Sundargarh District on its north. This is a district of Koshal region and is situated in the western region of the state having its head quarters at Deogarh town. Deogarh’s history dates back to 5th century A.D. when Mathara Royal Family was at the helm of the Administration. After this dynasty, Ganga Rulers came into power and established their capital at Deogarh. The rule of Britishers was one of the darkest periods in its history with no major development to show.

The District covering a geographical area of 2940 Sq Km, is located between 21 degree 31’ 53” North Latitude and 84 degree 43’ 2” East Longitude. The total population of the District is 2, 74, 108 comprising 1, 38, 408 male population and 1, 35, 700 female population as per 2001 census. Total SC population of the District is 42,117 and St population is 92,103.

As per the adminstrative set up is concerned, Deogarh District has got one sub divison namely Deogarh. There are 2 Tahasils, 3 Blocks, 60 Gram panchayats and 4 Police stations functioning in the District.

Deogarh District experiences hot summer from the month of March to May, heavy monsson from June to September and winter from the month of October to February. The average annual rainfall of the District is 1142.3 mm. The maximum temperature of the District is 43 degree C and minimum temperature is 8 degree C.

The literacy rate of Deogarh District is well over sixty percent, which is higher than the national average literacy rate. There are many educational institutes in the District providing best education. P.S Snatak Mahavidyalaya, PS +3 Degree College, Palsama Science College, Reamal College, Deogarh Government College etc are the important colleges of the District.

Main festivals celebrated in the Deogarh District are Ratha Yatra, Makar sankranti, Maha Shivratri, Dola Purnima, Dusherra, Kumar Purnima are the important festivals celebrated in the District.

Pradhanpat Waterfalls :

  

This waterfall is in Debagarh District of Odisha. This is a step waterfall. This waterfall is also a famous picnic area. Localites always comes to here for spending time and enjoying beauty of this waterfall. There is a nice park also made for hangouts and childrens enjoyment. There are 2 guest house in this place, so if any one want to stay for night camping, so they can stay here. There is a concrete step road made to see the waterfall. The water of this waterfall used as drinking water for Debagarh town, so you can not bath here. This place is surrounded by hills and dense forest. The water dropping is just like spraying some one from top. In tourism point of view, this place has been maintained well with nice bench, small bridges etc.. Here you can see a lot of monkeys. This waterfall situated on Pradhanpat Hills with rare scenic beauty. This waterfall is one of the best waterfall in Odisha. All year round you can see peoples comes here for natural scenery and to enjoy the beauty of this place.

Kurudkut Waterfall :

This waterfall is unknown to lot of people. This is deep inside dense forest. This is a small waterfall but with amidst natural beauty of jungle and waterfall. Govt has plan of a Hydro Electric Power Project on this waterfall. There is no perfect road to see the waterfall, you have to go 1kms on footstep roads to see this waterfall. Due to isolation, a lot of people do not come to this place. But this has the potential for a good tourism.This is also a step waterfall. Water coming from a root of a tree and flowing through various big stones and creating a waterfall feel. The Water is crystal, clear and sweet in taste. This waterfall is in 2kms from Debagarh town. You can see the real jungle adventure and beauty of saal trees here. The beauty and calmness of this area only you can get when you visit this place
