About Gaya District :

Gaya is 100 kilometers south of Patna, and is situated on the banks of Falgu River. It is a place sanctified by both the Hindu and the Buddhist religions. It is surrounded by small rocky hills (Mangala-Gauri, Shringa-Sthan, Ram-Shila and Brahmayoni) by three sides and the river flowing on the fourth (western) side. It is located at a Longitude of 84.40 to 85.50 towards East and the latitude is 24.50 – 25.100 towards North. Gaya occupies a total of 487607.83 sq. kms. Gaya is covered by Jehanabad district on the north, on the south by Chatra district of Jharkhand. On the east by Nawada district and on the west by Aurangabad district. The district is divided into 4 Sub-Division, 24 Blocks and 2889 villages.

Mahabodhi Temple :

The Mahabodhi temple is also called as the “Great Awakening Temple”. It is among one of the World Heritage Sites. It is a Buddhist temple in Bodh Gaya, which marks the location where the Buddha, is said to have attained enlightenment. It has a very calm and serene ambiance, which people from all walks of life can appreciate.

Mahabodhi temple is a historical place at which the Enlightenment of Gautam Buddha took place which later on became a place of pilgrimage. Many monks and devotees can be seen performing countless prostrations to the tree. It_ã_s a purificatory ritual and some monks are known to do up to 1,00,000 prostrations at one time.

Great Buddha Statue :

This statue of Lord Buddha is the tallest in India and was instated by the XIV Dalai Lama in 1989. It is a meditating Buddha resting on a giant lotus, constructed using intricately carved sandstone and red granite
