North Garo Hills District of Meghalaya at a Glance

About North Garo Hills District :

The district of North Garo Hills forms the Northern most part of Garo Hills. It is the gateway to the entire Garo Hills region and shares a border with Assam. The District was formed on the 27th July, 2012. The population is a mixture of indigenous Garo tribes along with other minor tribes comprising of Rabhas, Hajongs, Kacharis, Boros. The district is bounded on North by Goalpara(Assam), South by East Garo Hills District (Meghalaya), East by Kamrup (Assam) and West Khasi Hills District (Meghalaya) and West by Dadenggre Civil Sub Division, West Garo Hills District (Meghalaya). The total geographical area of the district is 1,113 Sq Km and the Headquarters is situated at Resubelpara. The district comprises of two Community & Rural Development Block viz. Resubelpara and Kharkutta. The places of tourist interests in the districts are Joldang Wari Lake and Resubelpara Hotsprings.
