About Prakasam District :

The Prakasam district with its headquarters at Ongole is bounded in the North by Guntur district, in the south by Nellore and Cuddapah districts, in the west by Kurnool district and in the East by Bay of Bengal and spread over an area of 17,626 sq. km. Ongole District came into existence on 02-02-1970 with the blending of parts of areas from Kurnool, Guntur and Nellore Districts. The district has its headquarters at Ongole and administratively divided into 56 revenue mandals which are grouped under 3 revenue divisions Ongole, Kandukur and Markapur. As per the 2011 census the population of the district is 33,92,764. Agriculture is the backbone of the District’s economy and major chunk of the working population depend on Agriculture. The major crops grown are tobacco, paddy, groundnut ,cotton, and pulses etc. The District is endowed with Minerals like Iron Ore, Slate, Silica Sand, Barytes, Granite, Quartz and Building stone, Lime Kankar etc.
