About Upper Subansiri District :

The Upper Subansiri District derives its name from the Subansiri River which meanders through the entire length of the District. The Subansiri District was further bifurcated into Lower Subansiri District and Upper Subansiri District in 1980. Daporijo has been declared as the districts headquarter of Upper Subansiri district with two Sub-divisions and nine CD Blocks. The Geographical Area of the District is 7,032.00 sq.km and the Population of the District is 83,448 as per 2011 Census. West Siang district falls at Ease and partly at South and lower Subansiri district at West and Partly at South. The Mc Mohan line borders China at north. The district is mountainous rugged and difficult terrain. The river Subansiri has intersected the terrain. Snow-caved Mountains ranges of height from 7000ft. to 18000 ft. (above sea level) stand like barrier at north. The district is rich in flora and fauna. Three major tribes inhabit the Upper Subansiri District, namely, the Tagin, the Nyishi, and the Galo. There is a close co-relation among the three tribes so far as their socio-economic aspects are concerned. Most of their traditions and customs have been handed down from generation to generation orally.

Namdapha National Park :

NAMDAPHA, a Tiger Reserve and National Park, a true wilderness and enchanting beauty of lush green vegetation, impenetrable pristine and virgin forests covered an area of 1985.23 square kilometres having diverse flora and fauna lies in the international border between India and Myanmar(Burma) within Changlang District in the state of Arunachal Pradesh in the northeast India. Namdapha National Park is located at a few kilometre away from Miao amidst misty blue hills along the turbulent Noa-Dihing river lies in the sprawling tropical rain forest. It was declared as Tiger Reserve by the Government in 1983. The beautiful forests possess great biodiversity of Flora and Fauna. A details study of its species and genetic variation has not yet been thoroughly done. Namdapha is Botanist’s dream and it may take as long as 50 years to complete a conprehensive survey of its botanical resources. There are more than 150 timber species. The Pinus merkusi and Abies delavavi are not found elsewhere in India. One of the rarest and endangered orchids, the Blue Vanda found here. The most famous local madicinal plant Mishimi Teeta (Copti teeta), which is used by the local tribal for all kinds of diseases is available here but its export has been banned. The diverse vegetations and habitats of Namdapha grooms diverse species of animals and birds. It is only park in the World to have the four Feline species of big cat namely the Tiger (Panthera Tigris), Leopard (Panthera Pardus), Snow Leopard (Panthera Uncia) and Clouded Leopard (Neofelis Nebulosa) and numbers of Lesser cats. A number of primate species are seen in the park, such as Assamese macaque, pig-tailed macaque, stump-tailed macaque and number of the distictive Hoolock Gibbons (Hylobates Hoolock), highly endangered and only ‘ape’ species found in India dwells in this impenetrable virgin forest. Of the many other important animals are the elephants, black bear, Indian Bison, several species of deers, reptiles and a variety of arboreal animals. Among the bird species, most notable are the White winged Wood Ducks, a rare and endangered species, the great Indian hornbills, jungle fowls and pheasants flop their noisy way through the jungle, and which harbours other colourful bird and animal species. The inaccessibility of greater part of the park has helped to keep the forests in their pristine and virgin state in its natural form. Moreover, the park possesses great bio diversity of flora and fauna. The lush green under growths are thick and intertwined like cobwebs of canes, bamboos, wild bananas and variety of vegetations The grandeur of the wet tropical rain forest is breeding ground for varieties of animals and birds which is remarkable and worth seeing
Khonsa :
Khonsa, a tiny hill station in a valley surrounded by the Himalyas, is the headquarters of Tirap district in the state of Arunachal Pradesh. It was created during the British period and was one of the five earliest districts of the state. Khonsa borders Myanmar in the east and Assam in the south. Surrounded by panoramic views of thick forests fringed by hills, Khonsa is a paradise to the visitors eye. This town in Tirap valley is surrounded by the majestic Himalayan ranges. The streams, deep gorges, dense forests and snow-clad hills add to the spectacular beauty of the place. The forests around Khonsa host wild beings from Tigers, Leopards, Jackals, Wild boars, Bears, Barking deer, Red Panda, Musk Deer, Mithun and numerous species of Rodents. One can find White gibbon monkeys swinging from branch to branch at Khonsa. A perfect place for all those who love adventure, Khonsa offers an exhilarating treks through dense forests. Blessed with numerous rare species of orchids, during April, the forests treat everyone’s eyes with these rare and exotic blossoms. The culture of the land is colorful too. A spectacular attribute of this place lies in the ethnicity of tribals and their festivals, fairs and flawless artworks which are created with intense dedication. These tribes makes jewellery from beads and there are headgears, elephant tusks and several other artifacts which mark its uniqueness
Khonsa Museum :

 

Khonsa Museum is situated in the town of Khonsa, Tirap District. It was built in the year 1956. This museum houses some of the amazing artifacts which represents the diverse culture of the district. Swords and other weapons are on display here. Apart from that, the museum houses handlooms and artifacts collections that represent the culture of various parts of India. Different types of cane and bamboo works can also be seen here.

How to Reach :
1. By Train There is no direct train service to Tirap. The nearest railway stations are at Dibrugarh (120 km), Tinsukia (110 km) or Naharkatia (70 km) in Assam . From these places, daily bus/taxi service is available to the district headquarter, Khonsa. It takes approximately 3 hours each from Dibrugarh and Tinsukia and approximately 2 hours from Naharkatia to reach Khonsa. There is a daily Rajdhani Express and Brahamputra Express from New Delhi to Dibrugarh / Tinsukia via Guwahati. The train bookings may be done online at the site www.irctc.co.in. 2. By Bus Both Govt. and private deluxe bus services are available between Guwahati and Dibrugarh/Tinsukia. Night service is also available. Then from Dibrugarh or Tinsukia onwards, buses of Arunachal Pradesh State Transport Service (APSTS) to Khonsa have a daily service. Many private taxis / buses also ply on this route. Khonsa has recently been connected to State capital Itanagar by a daily direct bus service of APSTS. 3. By Air Dibrugarh is connected to Guwahati by air through 2 daily flights. It also has a direct daily flight to New Delhi (Jetlite – www.jetlite.com). From Dibrugarh onwards, taxi or bus service is available. Dibrugarh is also connected to State Capital Itanagar by a daily helicopter (except Sundays) service (operated by Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh). Once a week, the helicopter also lands at Khonsa helipad from Dibrugarh. The time-table is however subject to change and exact prevailing timings may be ascertained from helipad at Itanagar
