About Wokha District :

The Wokha District is situated in the mid western part of Nagaland State, adjacent to Sibsagar plain of the Assam State. It is bounded by Mokokchung District in the North, Kohima District in the South. Zunheboto District in the East and the State of the Assam in the West. The Wokha District is situated at a latitude of 26° ‘8’ North and a longitude of 94° ’18’ East. It was bifurcated from Mokokchung District in the year 1973. The total geographical area of the district is 1,628 sq.km. The District is divided into three ranges viz. Wokha Range or Upper Range, Sanis Range or Middle Range and Bhandari Range or Lower Range. The highest mountain peak is the Tiyi Enung, with an altitude of 1970 mtrs. Important rivers which flow through the District are Nzhu and Nruk. Wokha is a land of beautiful, mountain ranges and rivers and is known for their vibrant dances and folk songs. Some noteworthy hills here are Mount Tiyi and Totsu Cliff. Doyang is the lagest river in the District and there is a Hydro Electricity Station with a capacity of 75MW called Doyang Hydro Project which is located across the Doyang River.

Tourist Places :

Some important places of tourist interest in the district are given below:
As we have stated, the district lies in the mid-west of the state having border with the plains of Assam. The district look like waves after waves in succession when we see from the plain of Assam. The hills look beautiful from the adjoin plains, the best time for touring the district is from October to May.

There are few places that one should visit in this district, Wokha is the district H.Q. and is situated at the foot of Wokha peak, on its western side. There is a water pool in the heart of the town which add to its beauty. Etsüchukha is a well known water source since British time, till now it is the main water source for people of Wokha town.

Vankhosung is the mission compound of Kyon Baptist Ekhumkho Sanrhyütsü (KBES) is only about 4 k.m. from Wokha town. It is the centre of Christian missionary activities. The first American Baptist Mission activity started there in 1923.

Liphanyan Governor’s camp –
It is on the foothills and is 43 km from Dimapur and can be approached from Wokha. From here, Doyang can be seen flowing through hills and vales in a zigzag pattern. It is a splendid sight. It is an ideal spot for rafting, angling, picnics and river camping.

Doyang Hydro Project –
It is a new addition to the tourist spots in Wokha district. This Hydel projects has a large quantity of water impounded in a dam. This dam is visible from many hilltop villages in the surrounding areas. Water sports can be introduced here.
