VITEEE 2015: Procedure to apply

How to proceed towards  success in the VITEEE 2015 Exam:

To sit for the online admission test, first you need to apply. The application form of VITEEE 2015 is  already linked up with the VIT University website to get going and will be available till the end of 27th  February 2015. Those who prefer to apply manually can obtain the printed from the University counter or certain Post Offices allotted for the purpose. The names of the different Post Office are there in the official website. The Prospectus  providing you various information for VITEEE 2015 will be discharged on the authority site alongside the application form. The aspirants are encouraged to download read the prospectus or information bulletin completely and be mindful of the base qualification criteria before applying. When you can place evidence about your qualification for VIT University 2015, you will be allowed  you to proceed to fill the application form. After you rightfully filling the online application form on the screen, applicants will be required to print the separate submitted application form & confirmation page and must send both in an enclosed envelope to the University office prior to the last date which would be determined in the plan.

VITEEE 2015 Eligibility Conditions:

VITEEE 2015 Eligibility: 

1.1   Nationality:
 The applicant for admission should be a Resident / Non Resident Indian National.

1.2   Qualifying Examination:

Candidates appearing for the VITEEE-2015 should have either completed or shall be appearing in 2015, in any one of the following qualifying examinations:

  • The final examination of the 10+2 system of Higher Secondary Examination conducted by the State Board; Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE, New Delhi); The Council for Indian School Certificate Examination (ISCE, New Delhi).
  • Intermediate or Two-year Pre-University Examination conducted by a recognized Board/ University.
  • High School Certificate Examination of the Cambridge University or International Baccalaureate Diploma of the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva.
  • General Certificate Education (GCE) examination (London / Cambridge / Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) Level.

Candidates who have studied in Regular, Full time and Formal Education alone are eligible to apply.

1.3    Eligibility Criteria in Qualifying Examination: 

Candidates appearing for the VITEEE in 2015 should have secured an aggregate of 60% in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics / Biology in the qualifying examination (+2/Intermediate).

The average marks obtained in the subjects Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics or Biology (PCM / PCB) in +2 (or its equivalent) put together should be 50% for the following categories:

  • Candidates belonging to SC/ST category
  • Candidates hailing from Jammu and Kashmir and the North Eastern states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura.

VITEEE 2015 Exam Pattern

  • VITEEE 2015 Exam Pattern for entrance exam shall have 3 part of tests i.e Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics/ Biology.
  • All Questions will be of Objective type.

PART-I – Physics (40 Questions)
PART-II – Chemistry (40 Questions)
PART-III – Mathematics / Biology (40 Questions)

  • Candidates who have studied Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics are eligible for all the B.Tech. Programmes.
  • Candidates attempting Parts-Physics, Chemistry & Biology are eligible for B.Tech. Bio-Medical Engineering, Biotechnology and Computer Science and Engg (Spec. in Bioinformatics) programmes only.
  • All the questions will be mostly from the State Board of Higher Secondary Education and the CBSE syllabus only. Each part has 40 questions and each question carries one mark.
  • Each question is followed by 4 alternative answers.
  • The candidate will have to choose the correct answer and click the same.  
  • No negative marks for wrong answers. The Question paper will be only in English. 
  • VIT 2015 entrance exam will be held in online mode as computer based test and the duration is 2 hours 30 minutes.

Atomic Structure:

  • Bohr’s atomic model-Sommerfeld’s extension of atomic structure; Electronic configuration and Quantum numbers; Shapes of s,p,d,f orbitals – Pauli’s exclusion principle – Hund’s Rule of maximum multiplicity- Aufbau principle. Emission spectrum, absorption spectrum, line spectra and band spectra; Hydrogen spectrum – Lyman, Balmer, Poschen, Brakett and Pfund series; deBroglie’s theory; Heisenberg’s uncertainty principle – wave nature of electron – Schrodinger wave equation (No derivation). General Characteristics of d – block elements – Electronic Configuration – Oxidation states of first row transition elements and their colours; Occurrence and principles of extraction: Copper, Silver, Gold and Zinc. Preparation, properties of CuSO4, AgNO3 and K2Cr2O7. Lanthanides – Introduction, electronic configuration, general characteristics, oxidation state – lanthanide contraction, uses, brief comparison of Lanthanides and Actinides.

 Coordination Chemistry and Solid State Chemistry

  • Introduction – Terminology in coordination chemistry – IUPAC nomenclature of mononuclear coordination compounds. Isomerism, Geometrical isomerism in 4-coordinate, 6-coordinate complexes. Theories on coordination compounds – Werner’s theory (brief), Valence Bond theory. Uses of coordination compounds. Bioinorganic compounds (Hemoglobin  and chlorophyll). Lattice – unit cell, systems, types of crystals, packing in solids; Ionic crystals – Imperfections in solids – point defects. X-Ray diffraction – Electrical Property, Amorphous solids (elementary  ideas only).

 Thermodynamics, Chemical Equilibrium and Chemical Kinetics

  • I and II law of thermodynamics – Spontaneous and non spontaneous processes, entropy, Gibb’s free energy – Free energy change and chemical equilibrium – significance of entropy. Law of mass action – Le Chatlier’s principle, applications of chemical equilibrium. Rate expression, order and molecularity of reactions, zero order, first order and pseudo first reaction – half life period. 1. Applications of Matrices and Determinants

  • Rank of a matrix – lementary transformation on a matrix, consistency of a system of linear equations, Cramer’s rule, non-homogeneous equations, homogeneous linear system and rank method.

2. Complex Numbers

  • Complex number system – conjugate, properties, ordered pair representation.
  • Modulus – properties, geometrical representation, polar form, principal value, conjugate, sum, difference, product, quotient, vector interpretation, solutions of polynomial equations, De Moivre’s theorem and its applications.
  • Roots of a complex number – nth roots, cube roots, fourth roots.

3. Analytical Geometry of two dimensions

  • Definition of a conic – general equation of a conic, classification with respect to the general equation of a conic, classification of conics with respect to eccentricity.
  • Equations of conic sections (parabola, ellipse and hyperbola) in standard forms and general forms- Directrix, Focus and Latus rectum – parametric form of conics and chords. – Tangents and normals – cartesian form and parametric form- equation of chord of contact of tangents from a point (x1 ,y1 ) to all the above said curves.
  • Asymptotes, Rectangular hyperbola – Standard equation of a rectangular hyperbola.

4. Vector Algebra

  • Scalar Product – angle between two vectors, properties of scalar product, applications of dot products. vector product, right handed and left handed systems, properties of vector product, applications of cross product.
  • Product of three vectors – Scalar triple product, properties of scalar triple product, vector triple product, vector product of four vectors, scalar product of four vectors.

5. Analytical Geometry of Three Dimensions

  • Direction cosines – direction ratios – equation of a straight line passing through a given point and parallel to a given line, passing through two given points, angle between two lines.
  • Planes – equation of a plane, passing through a given point and perpendicular to a line, given the distance from the origin and unit normal, passing through a given point and parallel to two given lines, passing through two given points and parallel to a given line, passing through three given non-collinear points, passing through the line of intersection of two given planes, the distance between a point and a plane, the plane which contains two given lines (co-planar lines), angle between a line and a plane.
  • Skew lines – shortest distance between two lines, condition for two lines to intersect, point of intersection, collinearity of three points.
  • Sphere – equation of the sphere whose centre and radius are given, equation of a sphere when the extremities of the diameter are given.

6. Differential Calculus

  • Derivative as a rate measurer – rate of change, velocity, acceleration, related rates, derivative as a measure of slope, tangent, normal and angle between curves, maxima and minima.
  • Mean value theorem- Rolle’s Theorem, Lagrange Mean Value Theorem, Taylor’s and Maclaurin’s series, L’ Hospital’s Rule, stationary points, increasing, decreasing, maxima, minima, concavity, convexity and points of inflexion.

7. Integral Calculus and its Applications

  • Simple definite integrals – fundamental theorems of calculus, properties of definite integrals.

8. Differential Equations

Taxonomy

  • Linnaean system of classification and Binomial nomenclature; history and types of classification; status of bacteria and viruses; classification of angiosperms up to sub-class level (Bentham and Hooker’ systems); salient features of non-chordates up to phylum levels and chordates up to class levels.

Evolution

  • Modern concepts of organic evolution, evidences of organic evolution (Fossil records and biochemical evidences). Darwinism and neo – Darwinism, Lamarckism, Neo-Lamarckism, sources of variation, mutation, recombination, genetic drift, migration, natural selection. Origin and concepts of species: speciation and isolation (geographical pre-mating and post-mating or post zygotic), adaptive radiations.

Cell and Molecular Biology

VITEEE – 2014 – CBT Important Instructions Pertaining

  1. The number of examination days will be estimated based on the total number of applications received for the particular group of courses and the test centre choices given by the candidates in the application form.
  2.  In the rare and unlikely event of a technical failure during the test, the candidate may be required to attempt the test again. Candidate must visit www.vit.ac.in regularly to obtain latest news, information and updates on the entrance test.
  3. VIT reserves the rights to reschedule the examination for a candidate. In rare and unlikely event of a technical failure during the test, the candidate may be required to attempt the test again. The candidate will not be charged any additional entrance exam fee if the re-schedule is initiated from VIT. However, the candidate has to make his/her own arrangements at his/her cost similar to the original schedule to take the test for the revised schedule.

Computer Based Test Procedure

  • The candidates must ensure that the computer allotted to them is switched on and any problem with the computer should be informed to the invigilator immediately.
  •  The questions appearing on the screen will be in English.
  • All questions will be of the Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) type. Each MCQ consists of a stem which may be in the form of a question or an incomplete statement and four responses labeled A, B, C and D. Only one of the four responses is the correct answer. Candidate needs to choose that answer. Candidates can navigate freely through the questions back and forth.

The salient features of the Computer Based Test

  • The candidate sits in front of the computer and the questions are presented on the monitor.
  • The candidate submits his or her answer through the use of mouse.
  • The computer is connected to the server, which delivers the encrypted test in real time through a secure and reliable connection.
  • Entrance test assumes that the candidate has the basic familiarity with the use of computer like use of keyboard and mouse operation.
  •  It is the responsibility of the candidate to acquire these skills before appearing in the entrance test and the University cannot take the responsibility for the same.

VITEEE 2014 Additional Information

  • It is the responsibility of the candidates to ascertain whether they possess the requisite qualifications for admission.
  • Having been called for the test / counselling does not necessarily mean acceptance of the eligibility.
  • It is mandatory that all the original relevant documents (such as Marks statement, Transfer Certificate, Conduct Certificate, etc.,) should be submitted to the Admissions Office at the time of admission.
  • Admission to various programmes will however be subject to verification of facts from the original certificates/documents of the candidates. In case any discrepancy arises, even at a later point of time after admission, the management reserves all right to cancel the candidate’s admission and this decision shall be final.
  • Age Limit :

Candidates whose date of birth falls on or after 1st July 1992 are  eligible to apply for VITEEE-2014. The date of birth as recorded in the High School / SSC / X Certificate will be considered authentic. Candidates should produce this certificate in original as a proof of their age at the time of counselling, failing for which they will be disqualified.
