JIPMER Syllabus:

             JIPMER (Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research) is an important medical entrance examination in India. More than one lakh students take part in this exam every year to get admission to the MBBS course in JIPMER, Pondicherry.

Total number of questions: 200 (Only multiple choice of questions)

Chemistry:

  • Basic concepts in Chemistry:

           Physical quantities and measurement in Chemistry, Matter and its nature, laws of chemical combinations, atomic, molecular, masses mole concept, chemical stoichiometry.

  • Atomic structure:

               Thomson’s and Rutherford atomic models, Bohr’s model of hydrogen atom, Heisenberg uncertainty principle, angular momentum and magnetic electronic spin and spin quantum numbers, Aufbau principle, Hund’s rule, electronic configurations of elements.

  • States of matter:

       Three states of matter, Kinetic theory of gases, real gas and deviation from ideal behavior, intermolecular forces, solids and liquids.

  • Chemical energetic:

             Basic concepts in thermodynamics, thermochemical equations, enthalpy changes during phase transformation, Hess’s law, standard enthalpies of formation, bond enthalpies.

  • Classification of elements and periodicity in properties:

     Modern periodic law and present form of periodic table, electronic configuration and types of elements and s,p,d,f, periodic trends in properties and elements.

  • Basic principles of organic chemistry:

Tetravalence of carbon, general introduction to naming organic compounds, electronic displacement in covalent bond, Fission of covalent bond, carbocations and carbonanions.

  • Chemistry in everyday life:

Chemicals in food, cleansing agents such as soaps, detergents, cleansing action, rocket propellants, chemicals in medicine.

  • Hydrocarbons:

Alkanes and cycloalkanes, alkenes and alkynes, aromatic hydrocarbons, petroleum and petrochemicals.

  • Purification and characterization of carbon compounds:

Purification of carbon compounds, qualitative analysis, quantitative analysis, determination of molecular masses.

  • General principles and processes of isolation of elements:

    Methods and principles of extraction, occurrence and principles of extraction of Al, Cu, Zn, Fe.

Physics:

  • Introduction and measurement:

   Need for measurement in physical quantities, units for measurement, systems of unit, dimensions of physical quantities, orders of magnitude, random and instrumental errors, Trignometric functions.

  • Description of motion in two and three dimensions:

     Vectors in two or three dimension, vector addition and multiplication, scalar and vector products, motion in two dimensions, general relation among position-velocity-acceleration for motion in a plane and circular motion.

  • Description of motion in one dimension:

                       Objects in motion in one dimension, motion in straight line, uniform, non-uniform motion, speed and velocity, relative velocity, average speed and instantaneous velocity, Uniformly accelerated motion, acceleration in one dimensional motion.

  • Laws of motion:

               Force and inertia, Momentum, conservation of momentum, rocket propulsion, static and kinetic frictions, rolling frictions, lubrications, inertial and non-inertial frames.

  • Rotational motion:

             Centre of mass of rigid body, nature of rotational motion, torque, angular momentum and its geometrical and physical meaning, conservation of angular momentum, moment of inertia and its significance, comparison between translatory (linear) and rotational motion.

  • Gravitation:

               Universal law of gravitation, inertial and gravitational mass, orbital velocity, geostationary satellites, gravitational potential, escape velocity and weightlessness.

  • Oscillations:

   Periodic and oscillatory motions, simple harmonic motion, resonance and damped oscillations with examples.

  • Magnetic effects of current:

         Oersted’s observation, magnetic field due to straight wire, circular loop and solenoid, forces and torques on currents in a magnetic field, forces between two currents, definition of amphere, ammeter and voltemeter.

The Entrance Test JIPMER UG 2015

JIPMER 2015 offers admission to its 150 M.B.B.S. seats through an online entrance test. JIPMER will open registrations for its M.B.B.S. course in the month of March 2015. Candidates will be able to submit their applications online on the institute’s portal www.jipmer.edu.in. Entrance test will be conducted in the first week of June 2015. Results will be out in the second week of June, post counselling in the initial weeks of July, the course shall commence in the 3rd week of July.

The computer based entrance test will be conducted online through designated test centers in major cities all over the country.

JIPMER UG 2015 Selection Process

Selection to the JIPMER 2015 undergraduate course will be purely based on merit in the entrance exam result. The result of only qualified candidates will be declared. The qualifying marks will depend on availability of seats, number of applicants, and difficulty level in the entrance examination.

JIPMER UG 2015 Exam Pattern

For JIPMER MBBS 2015 exam, there is no specific prescribed syllabus. However, 10+2 syllabus of State Board as well as CBSE Board are to be referred for the examination.

The exam will have 200 objective type (multiple choice and reason-assertion type) questions from Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Logic & Quantitative Reasoning, English and Comprehension.

Important points of JIPMER MBBS 2015 exam pattern are given below:

  • JIPMER MBBS 2015 exam will be conducted in English language.
  • The test will have multiple choice questions.
  • The candidates will have to pick the correct answer from the set of four options.
  • For each correct response the candidate will be awarded 1 mark.
  • There is no negative marking in the exam and no marks will be given for the questions left unanswered.

JIPMER UG 2015 Eligibility

  1. The candidate should be an Indian national.
  2. The candidate should be 17 years of age at the time of admission or be of that age on or before December 31st in the year of his/her admission to 1st  year MBBS.
  3. The candidate should have passed Higher Secondary Examination or the Indian School Certificate Examination equivalent to 10+2, majoring in Physics, Chemistry, Biology / Bio-technology and Mathematics.
  4. The applicant must have passed in the subjects Physics, Chemistry, Biology / Biotechnology and English individually obtaining a minimum of 50% mark. For OPH candidates in general category, the minimum marks taken together in the qualifying examination and competitive entrance examination is 45%. For SC/ ST/ OBC/ OPH candidates, the minimum marks in the qualifying examination are 40%.

(7)  For each correct (MCQ) response, one mark will be awarded. No negative marks will be awarded in the  incorrect response.

JIPMER PG 2015 Medical Eligibility

ESSENTIAL:

(a) Nationality :

i) Indian Nationals:-  Applicant must be an Indian National.

ii) For Overseas Citizen of India (OCI):-

OCI registered under Section 7A of Citizenship Act 1955 are also eligible to appear in this test and all terms and conditions applicable for Indian Nationals given in this Prospectus will be  applicable to them. The candidate should submit proof of Registration as OCI under Section 7A  of Citizenship Act 1955 at the time of counseling.

(b) Educational :

The candidates must possess MBBS or an equivalent Degree recognized by the Medical Council  of India.

(c) Experience:

Must have either completed or due to complete One Year Internship (Rotatory Housemanship)  training by 31st March 2015*.
[*Candidates likely to complete internship by 31-03-2015 only can take up the Entrance Examination. No condonation of Compulsory Rotating Internship beyond this date shall be  accepted].

(d) Application Status:

Candidates who have already done / completed MD/MS in any subject in any Institution are not  eligible for admission to MD/MS course at JIPMER.

On-Line Based Distributed Object System of Examination

  • The Entrance Examination is common to all and consists of 250 single best response type MCQs  and will cover all subjects. The Entrance Examination will be of the standard of MBBS Examination.

Question paper consists of a total of 250 Questions distributed in:

  • Basic Clinical Sciences (Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pathology, Pharmacology, Microbiology  and Forensic Medicine & Toxicology).   and – 100 Questions
  • Clinical Sciences (Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Community Medicine, Pediatrics,  Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, ENT, Anesthesiology, Dermatology, Psychiatry, Radio-diagnosis and  Radio-therapy). – 150 Questions

1. There shall be only one paper of three hours duration consisting of 250 Multiple Choice  Questions.

2. All questions will be of one best / correct response type having four alternatives.

3. More than one answer indicated against a question will be deemed as incorrect response and  negative mark will be given.

4. Each answer with correct response shall be awarded Four Marks.

5. ZERO mark will be given for the questions not answered.

6. Negative marks will be given for incorrect response. For every incorrect response, ONE  mark will be deducted.

7. The response of the candidate for a question(s), on click of “submit button” before closing of  Examination shall be considered as the response chosen by the candidate.

8. Candidates should report at the Exam City latest by 8.00 am. No entry will be permitted after  10.00 am.

9. The Mode of Examination is On-line based Distributed Object System Examination consisting of  250 single best response type multiple choice questions.

10. Biometric authentication through digital device and hard copy of signature and fingerprint in  attendance sheet will be taken. Cooperation of the candidate is solicited.

11. JIPMER reserves the right to reschedule the date / time of the Examination, depending upon local  conditions.

JIPMER 2015 Eligibility Criteria

(1) The Applicant should be an Indian National.

(2) He/She has completed age of 17 years at the time of admission or will complete the age  on or before 31st December 2015, the year of his/her admission to the 1st year  M.B.B.S., i.e. they should have been born on or before 01-01-1999.  (Request for relaxation from the prescribed age limit will not be considered for any  category of applicants).

(3) The applicants for JIPMER 2015 Eligibility Criteria should have passed the qualifying examinations in the manner mentioned  below:

(a) The Higher / Senior Secondary Examination or the Indian School Certificate  Examination which is equivalent to 10+2 Higher / Senior Secondary Examination  after a period of 12 years study, the last two years of such study comprising Physics,  Chemistry, Biology / Bio-technology (which shall include practical tests in these  subjects) or any other elective with English at a level not less than the core course  for English as prescribed by the National Council of Educational Research and  Training after introduction of the 10+2+3 educational structure as recommended by  the National Committee on Education

(b) The applicant must have passed in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology /  Bio-technology and English individually and must have obtained a minimum of 50%  marks taken together in Physics, Chemistry, Biology / Bio-technology at the  qualifying examination and competitive entrance examination. For candidates  belonging to the Scheduled Castes / Scheduled Tribe or Other Backward Classes /  OPH the marks obtained in the Physics, Chemistry, Biology/ Bio-technology taken  together in the qualifying examination and competitive entrance examination is 40%.
(c) For OPH candidates in general category the minimum marks taken together in the  qualifying examination and competitive entrance examination will be 45% .
(d) The Candidates who have passed the qualifying examination other than those  mentioned in the list & will have to submit an Eligibility  Certificate before admission is finalized. Obtaining such an Eligibility Certificate  from Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi is essential for OCI and  Foreign Nationals who are nominated by Govt. of India for admission to JIPMER  M.B.B.S. Course.

JIPMER 2014 Hall Ticket / Admit Card Download

Find the procedure for JIPMER 2014 Hall Ticket / Admit Card Download as given here under:-

  • Hall Tickets for the Entrance Examination shall be available for download to candidates whose  applications are complete in all respects, from 15.05.2014 on wards.
  •  The hall ticket will contain name and date of birth as typed by the candidate in the application,  photo and signature image as uploaded by the candidate, Examination City allotted and roll  number. 
  •  Change in category / status in the hall ticket will alone be considered for rectification.
  •  Written request with copy of the downloaded application and hall ticket and proof of category / status should be  sent to “The Registrar (Academic)”, JIPMER, Puducherry-605 006, so as to reach on or before 02.06.2014. 
  • JIPMER will not be responsible for postal delay. Request received after 02.06.2014 will not be  considered. 
  •  Any such change will be done in the hall ticket only on payment of fee 1000/- or 800/- (as  applicable) by way of demand draft, drawn in favour of “The Accounts Officer”, Puducherry,  payable at Puducherry, as for a fresh application. 
  •  Request for rectification / change of any other details in the hall ticket details shall not be  considered under any circumstances.  
  • No candidate will be allowed to appear for the Entrance Examination unless he / she holds the Hall Ticket  from the website of JIPMER.

Some Important Points About JIPMER 2014 Entrance Examination:-

  • Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research, Puducherry (JIPMER) under  Government of India since the year 1956, is one of the leading Medical Institutions of India. Spread  over a sprawling 195 acre campus in an urban locale of Puducherry (formerly Pondicherry), JIPMER  is 170 kms. by road from Chennai.  
  • JIPMER has been declared as an “Institution of National Importance” by an Act of Parliament,  JIPMER, Puducherry, Act, 2008. A copy of the Act was Gazette notified on 14-7-2008 to enforce this  Act. Prior to this the Institute was functioning under the administrative control of Directorate General  of Health Service, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, New Delhi. 
  • The Institution is now empowered to award Medical Degrees, Diplomas, etc., under the clauses 23 &  24 of the said Act. Such Degrees / Diploma , etc., shall be deemed to be included in the schedules to  the respective Acts governing Medical Council of India, Indian Nursing Council and Dental Council of  India, entitling the holders to the same privileges as those attached to the equivalent awards from the  recognized Universities of India. 
  • Admission to M.B.B.S. Course for 150 seats is through an Entrance Examination conducted by  JIPMER at various centers across India once a year.  
  • JIPMER imparts Undergraduate (UG), Postgraduate (PG) and Super Specialty Medical Training  through a working hospital (JIPMER Hospital) with bed strength of 2559 and a Nursing College.  M.B.B.S., B.Sc., M.Sc., M.D., M.S, Degree Courses are offered in 37 disciplines. Super Specialty  departments of Cardiology, Neurology, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Neurosurgery, Urology, Plastic  Surgery, Pediatric Surgery, Neonatology, Clinical Immunology, Clinical Pharmacology, Clinical Hematology, Nephrology, Medical Oncology, Endocrinology, Surgical Oncology and Surgical  Gastroenterology also offer D.M./ M.Ch.
