UGC NET 2015 Exam

UGC NET 2015 Exam, all you want to know:

This is National level Entrance test conducted by University Grants Commission (UGC) for the aspirants who like to start their career as Lecturers in Colleges and Universities or as Junior Researchers in Indian Research institutes.

National Eligibility Test (NET) is conducted two times a year. Once if the candidate clears the test, he/she will be eligible for Lecturer post or Junior Research Fellowship program if they are interested to do research works in colleges and universities. The National Educational Testing Bureau supervises UGC NET exams.

Why a candidate needs to take UGC NET exam?

  • In the year 1984, University Grant Commission (UGC) introduced Junior Research Fellowship program as the basic qualification in order to work as researchers in the Universities and colleges.
  • In the year 1989, National Eligibility Test (NET) was made mandatory for the candidates who like to start their career as Lecturers and Researchers.

About UGC NET exam:

This test is conducted in more than 94 subjects like Chemical Sciences, Physical Sciences, Engineering sciences, Mathematics, Earth, Ocean, Planetary Sciences and so on. UGC NET 2015 was held on 28 June 2015 and answer keys are said to be available from 18th August to 24th August 2015.

Along with this, candidate’s direct OMR sheets are available with the recorded responses. If there is any difference in the OMR sheets, you can challenge the answer key through the official website www.cbsenet.nic.in

UGC NET 2015 eligibilities:

  • The candidates who are pursuing final year of PG can apply UGC NET exam.
  • For the candidates who had completed their Post graduation must have secured a minimum of 55% in their PG exams.
  • D holders will be considered for an exemption of 5% of marks in UGC NET examination.
  • The candidate must not be more than 28 years as per the date of notification for applying UGC NET JRF
  • There is no age limit for Lecturer post.
  • Please refer the official site cbsenet.nic.in for any official notification of UGC NET 2015 December exam.

Pattern for UGC NET:

This exam is divided into three papers such as:

Paper 1:

This is a General paper which tests candidate’s teaching and researching abilities. There are total number of 60 questions in the sections like reasoning, comprehension, general awareness. Each carries 2 marks and the candidate must secure at least 40% in this Paper.

Paper 2:

Total number of questions in this paper is 50 in which each carries 2 marks. The questions are based upon the subjects chosen by the candidates. Minimum 40% of marks must be secured in this Paper.

Paper 3:

Just like the Paper 2, this paper contains 75 objective questions in the subjects that are chosen by the candidates. Minimum 50% of marks must be secured in this Paper. The above mentioned minimum marks must be secured in each paper separately. Then only UGC considers the candidate to be successful in this exam.

Syllabus for UGC NET 2015 exam:

In below link, you can find the detailed information about the syllabus of UGC NET 2015.

http://www.ugc.ac.in/net/syllabus.aspx

You can also find old question papers of UGC NET in the below link:

http://www.ugc.ac.in/net/oldqp.aspx

Advantages of Taking UGC NET 2015:
  • If you have not crossed 28 years of age, you can take part in this exam for the program of Junior Research fellowship.
  • If you have crossed 28 years of age, you can still take part in the exam for the posts of lecturer in the Government colleges with an attractive salary package. Generally, basic salary for the post of lecturer in the Government colleges can be around Rs. 40,000 per month.
  • Also, the candidate is able to apply for Assistant Professor Post in any college (which accepts UGC NET score) across India.
  • If the Ph.D holders have completed their Masters by September 1991, then he/she can enjoy an exemption of 5% of marks in UGC NET

JRF vs. Lecturership?

Those who are taking up UGC NET will be often oscillated between these two important terms while few people apply for both. But every candidate who applies for UGC NET must have a clear idea about these two terms.

Junior Research Fellowship (JRF):

If the candidate is selected for the position of Junior Research Fellowship, then he/she will be eligible for any research post in the Indian institutes with a stipend of Rs. 16,000/- for the first two years and Rs. 18,000/- for the next subsequent years on basis of their performance. On progress of candidate’s performance he/she will be upgraded to a higher designation from JRF (Junior Research Fellowship) to SRF (Senior Research Fellowship).

So, candidate who is very interested in Research and Development works must definitely take up UGC NET for JRF. This is because it is quite difficult for any normal student (Student’s who have not taken UGC NET JRF exam) to enter into the Research and Development department of any industry. But if you have good scores in UGC NET JRF and thus selected for fellowship program, then it is quite easy to further pursue your Ph.D program. Also, please note that, candidates with high scores are given first preference for the fellowship programs.

Lecturership:

Generally, candidates with a slight less cut-off difference of 4% to 5% are mostly qualified for Lecturership program. Lecturer job is totally different from the research work and it allows you to learn and keep encouraging young minds. You can get a salary between Rs 15,000 to Rs 55,000 in any Government colleges of India. Also, you have less work stress than any Researchers and you can stick over to a regular time pattern of life style.

Minimum Cut-offs for UGC NET:

UGC NET 2015 exam was conducted on June 28th, 2015.

Since the results are yet to be announced, you can find below the minimum cut-offs of UGC NET 2014

exam. However, minimum marks to be obtained in

Paper I will be 40%

Paper II will be 40%

CSAB Extended deadline to fill more seats in IIITs and NITs

CSAB Extended deadline to fill more seats in IIITs and NITs:

Central Counseling Board (CCB) of India coordinated admissions for UG degree courses in Technology, Architecture, Engineering, etc in respect of selected institutes till 2012. Later on 2013, Central Counseling Board (CCB) and All India Engineering Entrance Exam (AIEEE) have been renamed as Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) and JEE (mains) respectively. CSAB for 2015 has been constituted with Director, National Institute of Technology, Patna, as its Chairman.

News on August 2015:

Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) has extended the deadline to fill up the vacant seats till August 17 2015 to give a fair chance to the meritorious people in the institutions like NITs, IIITs and Government funded colleges. This extension of deadline will provide fair chance to meritorious people to take admission in the additional special round and will also help to fill up the remaining vacant seats in NITs and IITs.

These seats will be given for the candidates who do not have seat in the joint allocation process. Those students who have JEE (Main) marks and without seats are also eligible for granted seats. This news has come when 3000 seats are still vacant after the fourth round of seat allocation. But however, many parents and students are unhappy with this since it again allows the students who have already given a chance.

Out of 5550 vacant seats, around 3,100 seats are left vacant in NITs alone. Most of seats are available in unpopular courses while many seats are even available for most common courses like Computer science and Engineering, Mechanical, Civil which are considered to be the most important courses for Engineering aspirants. It is said that the major reason for this is, many students with higher ranks who had already blocked the seats did not report to take admission against the same. NIT, Patna Director and CSAB chairman said that the board has received 10,000 applications in the 3 day window for the special round initially.

They said that the board has been receiving requests from a set of students, who have mentioned that they have missed out to allocate a seat as they were unaware of business rules in the first time Joint Process. Based on this student’s request, the board has decided to open an additional special round for all. Also they have said that, since the admission are done on the basis of meritorious students; no harm will be caused for other students. Parents and students need not worry about this.

You can find the revised schedule for CSAB counseling in the below link:

http://csab.nic.in/WebInfo/PDF/RevisedSpecialRoundCounselingSchedule.pdf

The candidates have to download the E-challan and pay fees of Rs 40,000 before they could register online. This initial amount paid by the student will be forfeited if they fail to report the assigned institutes.

http://csab.nic.in/WebInfo/Introduction.aspx

You can also find vacancy position after PI reporting in the below link:
